We've talked about returning to England for years so when Bill spotted a 'cheap flight' May 15 - 30 we jumped at the chance.
We leave tomorrow from Vancouver at 3:00 pm. A civilized time that allows us to just head over from Victoria in the morning. We arrive at Gatwick at 8:30 in the morning and pick up a car to head out. Hopefully our older and jet-lagged brains allow us to get past the round abouts and off to our hotel not far away in Lingfield.
Bill and I have informally divided the planning for England -he is getting us there, sorting out the car (and driving!), and making the bookings. I have spent all my spare time pouring over travel books. It is very ambitious to confine a trip to England and London to two weeks! Since our last trip in 1973 I have a very long wish list and have been overwhelmed at times trying to narrow it down.
While I could spend hours in museums, galleries, cathedrals and gardens, Bill mostly enjoys strolling and people-watching. Bill says it is my trip and is planning on following my lead so I've tried to include all of the above! Truth is, I could just stroll the south bank, drop into the V&A, or travel past famous tube stops and feel satisfied. I am certain that if we can cope with the driving and time change, we'll be in heaven the entire two weeks.
Lingfield looks so charming. Those Tudor buildings never fail to amaze me. How can a building that is not made of stone be so old?!
